Two workshops covering both the theory and practice of fruit tree pruning and grafting with expert Andy Howard.
Saturday 12th: Pruning
The session on Saturday will cover pruning topics, including: the history of pruning; why we summer prune and how it maximises your fruit growth; cordons, fans, espaliers, step-overs and how to do them; how a tree grows, root stock sizes and vigour affect pruning; summer vs winter pruning.
Sunday 13th: Grafting
On Sunday, we'll cover grafting: the history of budding; when and how to collect and store scion wood; different types of rootstocks and reasons for selection; different methods of summer budding and their pros and cons; best tools to use; the best methods for sealing the graft; plant aftercare and how to make sure your graft takes. You will take home a grafted tree.
