The Comedy of Errors, 22nd February 2012 to 25th February 2012, 19:30 at Unicorn Theatre, Thames Street, Abingdon (5.1 miles)
A new staging of The Comedy of Errors... a sparky and fast-paced farcical comedy from Shakespeare, based on a story from the ribald Roman playwright, Plautus.
Identical twins (two sets) separated at birth, a lost gold chain, an execution (pending), thousands of Drachma - and a setting combining ancient Greece and modern Ayia Napa. One of Shakespeare's funniest plays in a new, colourful and energetic production... music, mayhem and moussaka* on the Unicorn's Elizabethan stage.

Return of Resource Scarcity with local group Flocking Environmentalists , 23rd February 2012, 19:30 to 21:30 at Pegasus Theatre, Magdalen road, Oxford, Magdalen Road (1.2 miles)

Whether or not you’re concerned about accelerating biodiversity loss, water security, climate change, or the impact of major economies in Asia and Latin America joining the West in destructive mass consumerism, the evidence is clear: we are stretching the planet’s resources.

Though 1970s anxieties proved largely unfounded, emerging research is resuscitating these concerns in a new way. A panel of local thinkers will lead an interactive discussion asking whether the world really is now entering an age where resource scarcity will come to define the limits of human well-being. Afterwards, Oxford Comedy Deathmatch will provide an irreverent summary of the discussions.

Sensual Africa is a choreographic work of art, dexterously crafted following Bawren Tavaziva’s inspirational trip to one of Africa’s most beautiful and compact countries, Malawi. Malawi…untouched, pure, raw, natural, unearthed, mysterious, rich in culture and life. In a nutshell…SENSUAL.

Voyage with Bawren Tavaziva and his company of outstanding dancers as they salute and pay homage to the fascinating Tumbuka and Chewa Tribes.

Be seduced as Tavaziva Dance injects their own interpretation of the complexities of these intriguing tribes’ movements and music and the inimitability of the rituals that boys and girls go through to become men and women.

Kathakbox does not ‘box in’ these genres to a particular time or place, but uncovers the raw spirit and heartbeat of each art form as it shivers between cultures. This bold, heart-pounding production features Sonia Sabri and three dancers including dynamic b-boy Nathan Geering, tabla maestro Sarvar Sabri, acclaimed spoken word artist & vocalist Marcina Arnold and beatboxer Shan Bansil.

Volunteers' Fair, 10th March 2012 at Didcot Civic Hall, Britwell Road, Didcot (8.9 miles)
The Didcot Rotary Club is organising a ‘VOLUNTEERS’ FAIR’ for the benefit of Charities and other Voluntary Organisations in the Didcot Area.
The event is taking place at Didcot Civic Hall, on Saturday 10th March 2012, from 10am to 3pm.
Many organisations need help to give that vital support to the local community.
Have you got the time, the ability or the skills to `make a difference` to someone's life? There are many ways of ‘Helping others’ and just a little of your time can be just what is needed. It can help you form new friendships, have fun, learn new skills or just ‘be there for someone else’.
You may be unemployed and looking for something to add to your CV; alternatively you may be retired and looking for something to do for the rest of your life. Maybe you are a parent with time on your hands when the children are at school; or, possibly, you are self-employed or working from home and wish to get out more. Or, you may simply have a few hours to spare now and again.
There will be many groups at the Fair offering a wide range of volunteering opportunities. Why not come along and find out about them, you have nothing to lose?
Didcot Town Mayor, Phil Haywood, said, “I think this a fabulous idea to focus on what the various organisations are doing and their needs”.
Local MP, Ed Vaizey, commented, “I have always been hugely impressed by the amount of volunteering that goes on in the Constituency. It really makes a great difference to people’s lives, whether it’s giving people lifts, helping at advice centres, or running clubs and societies. We couldn’t function as a society without volunteers, so I hope people will see this Fair as a great opportunity to use their skills or time to help the community”.
For further information and how to book a place for your organisation, please contact:
Colin Campbell on 01235 212082 or email: rotary@campbellandco.co.uk.
There is no charge for groups wishing to participate in the event.
Volunteers can just turn up on the day.
